Explore the 'sunrise side’ of the state
Michigan’s East Coast resides on beautiful Lake Huron, the second largest of the Great Lakes and the third largest lake in the world. Known as the Sunrise Coast with its spectacular sunrises, the coast is rich with scenic drives, acres of national forest land, historic landmarks and natural beauty.
Thousands of birds migrate to the area each spring. Over 300 bird species appear each year at the Tawas Point Lighthouse to delight bird watchers and wildlife photographers. Wildflowers and wildlife are abundant along the rivers, forest and miles of scenic trails.

“Thank you for everything! It was so very fun! I think I sent the attached berries but I wanted to tell you that my 8-year old spent the entire day taking this same picture because he was so excited about everything I shared with him. Thanks for inspiring!!”
